Panel discussion - Freeing Energy from the Grid: Can Smart Grids, E-mobility, and other innovations make energy sustainable, democratic, and free? (21 May 2012 17:00, Orange Room, TU Delft Library, Prometheusplein 1)

What does our future look like without cheap fossil fuels for energy? Scenarios range from global mayhem and the collapse of our civilization to the rescaling of our economy based on local, ecologically sustainable solutions. Whatever your preferred scenario, it is clear that this is something we should all be thinking about, especially at a university of technology.

As the highlight of the week-long GreenWorks Sustainability Event, Studium Generale has invited a panel of movers and shakers in the realm of sustainability, energy, and technology to discuss these questions. Guest speaker Mrs. Liesbeth van Tongeren, member of Parliament with the GreenLeft (GroenLinks) party, will deliver an introductory speech with her vision on the future of sustainable energy. She will then be joined by Rob van Rees, co-founder of GreenChoice, a 100% sustainable energy company in the Netherlands, Rabin Baldewsingh, deputy mayor and councilor for sustainability in The Hague, Gijsbert Korevaar, professor of Industrial Ecology at TU Delft, and Miro Zeman, professor of Electrical Sustainable Energy at TU Delft.

Meeting the Rector (22 May 2012 20:00, Jac. van Beierenlaan 27, 2613 HW Delft)

TU Delft organises in the Spring of 2012 four meetings between the Rector and students according to the formula "Closer to students". In different informal evening sessions debates on current subjects selected from newspapers, weekly magazines and the internet, will be held at different student houses and student societies. Both Rector and students will select items from the daily news they feel are relevant for education, research and TU Delft's future. Since students highly value good communication with their educational institute, the Rector would like to learn directly from students what is important to them. The meetings therefore offer an opportunity for a straightforward dialogue on the quality of education related to current societal developments without any restrictions.

Op 25 mei vindt het eindsymposium plaats van de honoursstudenten (HPB EWI) die dit jaar hun honoursprogramma afronden. Dit symposium vindt plaats in zaal D van EWI, van 16.00-18.30 uur. Tijdens het symposium zullen deze studenten vertellen wat ze hebben onderzocht en wat hun ervaringen zijn.
Een deel van het symposium zal bestaan uit een infomarkt waarbij je vrij kan rondlopen en naar hartelust vragen kan stellen aan de studenten.

Vandaag gaat Studium Generale voor het eerst op bezoek bij de Haagse Hogeschool. Samen met studenten daar is besloten om dieper in te gaan op het probleem informatie en privacy op internet.

Alle vragen die je ook maar hebt over internet, privacy en vrijheid, stel ze gerust aan het panel van experts. Onze gasten zijn:
- Tim Toornvliet van Bits of Freedom
- Menno van der Marel, oprichter en directeur van Fox-IT
- en docenten Marcel Spruyt (Cyber Security & Safety) en Pieter Burghouwt (gespecialiseerd in Botnets) van de Haagse Hogeschool

Aan hen de taak om ons door het landschap van onze digitale tijdsgeest te voeren. Benieuwd wat wij daar met z’n allen van vinden? Neem je vrienden en vriendinnen mee en laat je horen!
